Who was Balfour? Arthur James Balfour (1848–1930) was a British statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1902 to 1905. He is best known in connection with the 1917 Balfour Declaration, in which the British government expressed support for the establishment of a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine. The declaration became an important milestone in the history of the Zionist movement and the State of Israel.
